Pushing the Limits: Science in Our Lives Discussion Series – Tues, Mar. 11 6:00-7:30 pm
The theme for our first March meeting is Connection and will be lead by Lisa Lund, who is the Technology Coordinator for USD 458. The suggested book is Thunderstruck by Erik Larson. Larson’s book fictionalizes Guglielmo Marconi’s struggle to generate enough electricity for a reliable trans-Atlantic transmission, which also parallels the true-life search for one of Britain’s most notorious serial killers. Marconi’s technology eventually allows people on both sides of the pond to listen in as Scotland Yard tracks and captures the villain.
The video features Roxanne Swentzell, prominent ceramic sculptor whose works are represented in museums around the world. As founder of the Flowering Tree Permaculture Institute in New Mexico, she listens to the past in order to create art for the future, connecting generations across time.
